Location is generally the largest single variable. The national median for women's haircut is $69; the same appointment can land near $48 in a small market and $121 in a top-tier metro. That is a 2.5× spread on an identical service name.

Your own market may sit between tiers. The point is the 2.5x spread, not the precise figure in any one row.

The booking script, word for word

You do not need to negotiate. You need the price to be stated before the service starts. These questions do that without any awkwardness.

1. "If this runs longer than booked, does the price change?"
2. "What add-ons do you normally recommend for this service, and what does each cost?"
3. "What is the precise price for women's haircut at my hair length and density?"
4. "Can you email or text me the quote before my appointment?"
5. "Is there a first-visit offer or a package rate I should know about?"
6. "Is a shampoo, blow-dry or finish included in that price, or billed on a separate line?"
7. "Which provider tier is that quote for, and what does the next tier up cost?"

Finally: get the quote on paper. A text or email costs the salon nothing and removes any argument at checkout.
