What this site is
Independent price research for U.S. salons, spas and tanning studios. 1,950 guides covering 125 brands, 266 service-cost breakdowns and 397 head-to-head comparisons — each separating what a brand actually publishes from labelled U.S. market ranges.
Menu prices are not final prices. Every guide here works through add-ons, policy charges, regional variation, gratuity and the annual cost of keeping a service up, because that is the number that decides whether something is affordable.

How salon pricing actually works
A menu price is a starting figure. By the time you pay, three things have usually been added: an add-on accepted at the chair, sales tax, and gratuity. Together they add roughly a quarter to the number on the board — before any upgrade in provider tier or appointment length.
The second thing that surprises people is geography. Rent and wages set the menu, so the same service name spans a two-and-a-half-times range between rural markets and the most expensive metros.
| Service | Market low | National median | Market high | Unit | What drives it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Women's haircut | $28 | $69 | $140 | per cut | Usually includes consultation, shampoo and a finish style. |
| Men's haircut | $18 | $43 | $75 | per cut | Barbershop and men's-chain cuts; clipper work only sits at the low end. |
| Balayage | $150 | $250 | $420 | per service | Hand-painted; long or dark hair pushes past the top end. |
| Partial highlights | $85 | $135 | $215 | per service | Crown and face-frame foils. |
| Gel manicure | $30 | $45 | $70 | per service | Cured colour; removal is often a separate charge. |
| Basic pedicure | $30 | $45 | $70 | per service | Soak, nail work, callus smoothing and polish. |
| Brazilian wax | $45 | $62 | $100 | per service | Full removal; first-timer offers are common. |
| Classic lash full set | $100 | $155 | $250 | full set | One extension per natural lash. |
| Standard facial | $75 | $110 | $180 | 50-60 min | Includes extractions and a treatment mask. |
| Spray tan (booth) | $25 | $45 | $75 | per session | Booth is cheaper; hand airbrush costs more. |

What the same service costs across the country
Before deciding a quote is high, check it against your own market rather than the national figure.

How we handle prices
- Published brand amounts stay attached to their source. A price documented for one location is never presented as a national rate.
- Market ranges are labelled and kept separate. They are compiled national data and are never attributed to a brand.
- Fees are never averaged into service prices. A cancellation charge is a penalty, not a service, and mixing the two is how misleading averages get made.
- Every page carries a review date and a correction route. Prices move, and we would rather be corrected than confidently wrong.

Frequently asked questions
How are prices on this site sourced?
Brand-specific amounts are recorded from official published pages and kept attached to the exact service and location they were published for. Separately, we show U.S. market ranges compiled from published industry pricing data. The two are always visually distinct and never mixed into one average.
Is Salons Guide affiliated with any of these brands?
No. Salons Guide is independently operated and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or compensated by any salon, spa or tanning brand covered on the site. See the advertising policy for how the site is funded.
How often is pricing re-checked?
Pages carry a review date; the current cycle was completed in August 2026. Published prices change without notice, so we treat every figure as research rather than a bookable quote and welcome corrections.
What should I do if a price is wrong?
Send it through the corrections form with the location and date. Corrections are logged, dated and applied to the affected pages rather than handled privately.
