Most budgets break at the cadence, not the price. Eyebrow wax maintained every 4 weeks works out to roughly $312 annually once gratuity is included.

Gratuity is included at 20% because it is expected rather than optional. Remove it if you prefer to budget separately.

Two rules do most of the work: tip on the service before tax, and tip the person who performed it.

• Holiday tipping is a separate norm from per-visit tipping and is typically a one-off larger amount.
• On a package or prepaid series, tip each visit on the value of that visit rather than once on the whole package.
• A tip is for the work performed, not for the price you were charged. Do not penalise a provider for a menu they did not set.
• Tip the same on a redo as on the original if the redo was not the provider's fault - and speak to management rather than the provider if it was.

You do not need to negotiate. You need the price to be stated before the service starts. These questions do that without any awkwardness.

1. "Which provider tier is that quote for, and what does the next tier up cost?"
2. "Are taxes added at checkout, and do you have a card-payment surcharge?"
3. "What is the exact price for eyebrow wax at my hair length and density?"
4. "Is removal of my existing product included, or is it a separate charge?"
5. "Do you take a deposit, and does it come off the final balance?"
6. "If this runs longer than booked, does the price change?"
7. "Is a shampoo, blow-dry or finish included in that price, or billed separately?"

One more at the desk: ask for the itemised total before you tap the card. Every line should match something you were told about on the phone.

Menu price versus final bill
