How to search this site
Search covers every guide on the site. The most useful queries are specific: a brand plus a service ("Drybar blowout"), a service plus the word cost ("balayage cost"), or two brands to pull up a direct comparison.
If you are not sure what you are looking for, the directories are usually faster than search: brands, service costs, comparisons and decision guides each have their own index.
What people look for most
The most common searches fall into four patterns, and each has a matching guide type on this site.
- "How much is [service]?" — answered by the service cost guides, with national medians, metro bands and the add-ons that move the total.
- "[Brand] prices" — answered by brand guides, which separate published brand amounts from market context.
- "[Brand A] vs [Brand B]" — answered by the comparison guides.
- "Is [membership] worth it?" — answered by break-even maths rather than opinion.
| Service | Market low | National median | Market high | Unit | What drives it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Women's haircut | $28 | $69 | $140 | per cut | Usually includes consultation, shampoo and a finish style. |
| Men's haircut | $18 | $43 | $75 | per cut | Barbershop and men's-chain cuts; clipper work only sits at the low end. |
| Balayage | $150 | $250 | $420 | per service | Hand-painted; long or dark hair pushes past the top end. |
| Gel manicure | $30 | $45 | $70 | per service | Cured colour; removal is often a separate charge. |
| Brazilian wax | $45 | $62 | $100 | per service | Full removal; first-timer offers are common. |
| Classic lash full set | $100 | $155 | $250 | full set | One extension per natural lash. |
| Standard facial | $75 | $110 | $180 | 50-60 min | Includes extractions and a treatment mask. |
| Spray tan (booth) | $25 | $45 | $75 | per session | Booth is cheaper; hand airbrush costs more. |
| Unlimited tanning membership | $20 | $45 | $110 | per month | Tier decides bed access and spray inclusions. |

Getting better results
Three habits make the difference between a vague answer and a usable one.
- Search the service, not the feeling. "Cheap salon" returns little; "womens haircut cost" or "balayage cost" maps directly onto a guide with numbers in it.
- Use the brand name exactly. Brand guides are indexed under their official names, so "Great Clips" finds more than "great clips near me".
- Search the fee, not the service, for policy questions. "Cancellation policy", "no-show fee" and "deposit" all have dedicated guides.
Searches on this site never leave the site — there is no tracking of what you type, and results are matched in your browser against a local index rather than sent to a server.
Browse instead of searching
If you are exploring rather than looking for one figure, the directories are usually faster.
- Salon brands — published prices, fees and booking policies by brand.
- Service costs — what each treatment costs and what drives the price.
- Tanning — UV level pricing, spray tanning and membership break-even.
- Comparisons — two brands or two services side by side.
- Decision guides — for when the question is "which one", not "how much".
- Calculators — turn a menu price into a realistic total.
- Regional pricing — how much your metro changes the number.

Frequently asked questions
How are prices on this site sourced?
Brand-specific amounts are recorded from official published pages and kept attached to the exact service and location they were published for. Separately, we show U.S. market ranges compiled from published industry pricing data. The two are always visually distinct and never mixed into one average.
Is Salons Guide affiliated with any of these brands?
No. Salons Guide is independently operated and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or compensated by any salon, spa or tanning brand covered on the site. See the advertising policy for how the site is funded.
How often is pricing re-checked?
Pages carry a review date; the current cycle was completed in August 2026. Published prices change without notice, so we treat every figure as research rather than a bookable quote and welcome corrections.
What should I do if a price is wrong?
Send it through the corrections form with the location and date. Corrections are logged, dated and applied to the affected pages rather than handled privately.
