The same service, four different markets

Before deciding a quote is high, check it against your own market rather than the national number. A $104 quote is costly in a tier-4 market and unremarkable in tier 1.

Your own market may sit between tiers. The point is the 2.5x spread, not the precise figure in any one row.

What actually changes your price

Ranking these matters. Most of us compare the headline price of two salons and skip past the next few lines below it that really determine the bill.

7. "Are taxes added at checkout, and do you have a card-payment surcharge?"

Then do one thing at checkout: ask for an itemised receipt. If a line appears that you were not told about, that is the moment to raise it — not after you have left.
