Read these out. They take about ninety seconds and it is the gap between a quote and a surprise. The last one matters most — a written quote settles any dispute at checkout.

How much to tip on this service

Two rules do most of the work: tip on the service before tax, and tip the person who performed it.

• On a package or prepaid series, tip each visit on the value of that visit rather than once on the whole package.
• Card tips may be pooled or delayed to the next pay run. Ask if you want it to reach one person directly.
• At a resort or hotel spa, see whether a service charge is included before adding another tip.
